The Executive Board, the executive body of the municipal administration, works in conjunction with the Mayor in the implementation of those administrative acts which are not assigned by law, nor by the municipal statute or by regulations of the Council or other municipal bodies and which do not fall within the scope of competence of the Managers.
The Executive Board consists of the Mayor and eight members. In conjunction with the Mayor it acts as a driving force, presenting proposals to the Council and then implementing the council decisions. On appointment as member of the Executive Board, the councillor resigns from the council. The Executive Board members take part in the work of the council and the committees and have the right to express themselves in proposals, but not to vote. The Mayor entrusts each member with the responsibility of monitoring a specific sector of the Administration according to the policies set out by the Municipality governing bodies. The Mayor is elected directly by the Municipality’s registered voters. The City Council discusses and agrees on the management’s general policies. The Executive Board is chaired by the Mayor who defines its agenda. The Executive Board usually meets in camera and its decisions are taken on majority vote.
